NSHBA was organized in 1965 because there was a need for a unified voice to preserve, protect, and promote the housing industry at the state level. The following mission statement and goals serve to focus association activities. Today the Nebraska housing industry involves remodelers, new home builders, material suppliers, subcontractors and specialty trade contractors, employing over 14,000 people and generating over $72 million dollars in revenue for state and local governments.
NSHBA Mission Statement
The Nebraska State Home Builders Association represents the residential and light commercial building industry at the state level and assists local associations and individual members by pursuing a suitable environment to ensure the vitality of the building industry for the benefit of its members, and to promote quality & affordable housing for the people of Nebraska.
Mission Goals
In recent years governmental laws and regulations have been a primary factor in increasing the cost of housing in Nebraska. Many Nebraskans have been priced out of the American dream of owning a new home, which is one the most powerful wealth producing tools a family has to secure their future.
What happens to the home building industry impacts the American family. Political action and advocacy is accomplished with a full time staff which lobbies legislation affecting the industry and organizes "grass roots" lobbying of senators by the membership on important legislative issues. The NSHBA PAC assists candidates who support the industry and encourages members to become candidates for public office or to serve on appointed boards and commissions. NSHBA monitors local issues across the state and acts as a clearinghouse of information to address emerging issues.
Special seminars and a state convention are sponsored by NSHBA to help members comprehend and take advantage of opportunities in today's rapidly changing market. Additional educational opportunities are offered in conjunction with the Home Builders Institute, the educational arm of NAHB. Members can earn a professional designation of Certified Graduate Associate, Certified Graduate Builder, Certified Graduate Remodeler, or Certified New Home Sales Person. Also, a Nebraska Certified Green Builder designation can be earned through participation in the Green Building Program.
Our members believe that the industry's long term survival and growth depend on high standards of business ethics and quality workmanship for customers, employees, subcontractors and suppliers.
NSHBA is an open forum for builders and related industry professionals to meet and exchange information about opportunities, trends and problems. Associate members have opportunities to meet with builders in order to build and sustain positive and profitable relationships. Statewide events provide opportunities to build fellowship and nurture friendships across the state.
NSHBA supports or endorses a range of services for its members at the local, state, and national level which include:
